5MP USB Camera Module Comparison: Single-Lens or Dual-Lens Design?

5MP USB Camera Module Comparison: Single-Lens or Dual-Lens Design?
Illustration for reference; see the product page for actual photos and specifications.

MY-USB5M208A and MY-DC52M-A1 share a 5MP visible-light camera, 102° diagonal field of view, 85dB dynamic range, fixed focus, USB 2.0 output, and a 0°C to +50°C working temperature. Choose the MY-USB5M208A for a single-camera design, or the MY-DC52M-A1 when a 2MP infrared camera, infrared fill light, and liveness detection are part of the system.

MY-DC52M-A1 Dual Lens Wide Dynamic Range USB Camera Module with HD Video 5MP + 2MP

A 5mp usb camera module selection starts with the image channels the device must handle. The MY-USB5M208A is a single-camera module with a 2592 × 1944 CMOS image. The MY-DC52M-A1 combines a 5MP visible-light camera with a 2MP infrared camera.

Both modules provide the same primary 5MP image size, 102° diagonal field of view, 85dB dynamic range, fixed-focus arrangement, USB 5V supply, and working temperature range. Their camera layouts, connectors, and maximum working currents differ.

When the single-camera module fits

The MY-USB5M208A suits a device that needs one visible-light image stream over USB. Its 2592 × 1944 image, 102° diagonal field of view, fixed focus, MJPG and YUV formats, and automatic saturation, white-balance, and exposure controls support single-camera conferencing, live broadcast, and embedded capture designs.

A desktop or embedded enclosure may have one camera opening and a host designed around a compact 5P/1.25 USB 2.0 connector. Picture the lens covering a meeting area or presentation zone without a focus adjustment during use. Before ordering, check the enclosure opening, cable path, connector placement, and the host's UVC support.

When the dual-camera module fits

The MY-DC52M-A1 suits systems that use visible-light and infrared image information together. Its primary camera provides 2592 × 1944 effective pixels with a 102° diagonal field of view and 85dB dynamic range. Its infrared camera provides 1920 × 1080 effective pixels with an 89° diagonal field of view and 81dB dynamic range.

Both cameras use fixed focus and support MJPG and YUV formats. The module includes infrared fill light and liveness detection, and it uses a USB-A USB 2.0 interface. A facial-recognition terminal or self-service device can use the two camera channels from one assembly when its enclosure and software are designed for them.

For that layout, measure the camera-to-user area and check both the 102° visible-light view and the 89° infrared view against the intended zone. The host power design should also accommodate the 300mA maximum working current.

Integration points for procurement

The MY-USB5M208A uses a 5P/1.25 connector, while the MY-DC52M-A1 uses USB-A. This choice affects the cable route, enclosure cutout, and host-side port arrangement. The dual-camera module also identifies separate VID/PID values for its USB VR and USB IR cameras, so software handling should be checked for two camera devices.

Both modules support Windows XP through Windows 11, Mac OS with a UVC driver, and Linux or another operating system with a UVC driver. Both use USB 2.0 and operate from USB 5V. The MY-USB5M208A has a 120mA maximum working current, while the MY-DC52M-A1 has a 300mA maximum working current.

If the design requires USB 3.0, compare these USB 2.0 options with the MYUSB5M208B 5MP USB 3.0 camera module, which uses a USB 3.0 Type-C interface and provides 2592 × 1944 output.

Selection guidance

Choose the MY-USB5M208A when the device needs one 5MP visible-light camera, a 102° diagonal view, fixed focus, and a 5P/1.25 USB 2.0 connection. It is suited to single-image capture, conferencing, and broadcast assemblies.

Choose the MY-DC52M-A1 when the device needs a 5MP visible-light channel together with a 2MP infrared channel, infrared fill light, and liveness detection. Its USB-A connector and 300mA maximum working current should be included in the host design.

Send the supplier the host operating system, connector preference, camera-channel requirements, enclosure drawing, and estimated order quantity for a design review.
